3D scan using mass market hardware.
FARO, a company specializing in 3D scanning hardware and software, has released SCENECT, a free app that uses the sensor data from a Microsoft Kinect or other, similar device for 3D scanning. The app even incorporates the color data in addition to the geometry of the object to produce full-color 3D models.

I wonder how this compares to http://reconstructme.net/
I assume reconstruct me is a little more stable for use immediately.

SCENECT currently works with the Kinect for XBOX and with the ASUS Xtion Pro Live.
Once the drive we are using will support the Kinect for Windows, our SCENECT software will be able to use it as well.

Brad, SCENECT and ReconstructMe are definitely related products. From looking through their respective websites, I noticed that ReconstructMe advertises real-time scanning while SCENECT has the unusual ability to 3D scan in full color. I also have no reason to think that either is notably unstable.
I’ve used reconstructMe and it was not easy. It runs from the command line and is quite difficult to get a good scan from. I look forward to trying this software!
